WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Wilmington city leaders have accepted half a million dollars in grant money to begin a pilot project to help keep former opiate and heroin addicts safe and clean.
The grant money will go towards developing and implementing the Cape Fear Opiate Overdose Quick Response Team. The intent of the team is to initiate follow-up care and counseling after an individual experiences a survivable overdose from opiates with naloxone administration.
The council did not decide to move ahead on a change to land code law and permitting processes for specific building heights in urban mixed use zones. The council held an initial public hearing on February 20, 2018. After the public hearing and discussion regarding the development agreement approval process, Council voted to hold the public hearing open and continue it to the March 20, 2018 Council meeting.
Passing the new code would amend the Land Development Code to allow buildings within a UMX-zoned property to be constructed to a maximum height of seventy-five feet without a special use permit if the development is subject to an approved development
agreement.
Council tabled the item until its April meeting.
